SB 848: Classified Employee Hiring Requirements
SB 848 is a California law designed to strengthen school safety by extending rigorous transparency and accountability requirements to the hiring of noncertificated (classified) employees. Starting January 1, 2026, applicants for these positions must provide a full list of their past school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, state special schools, diagnostic centers operated by the California Department of Education and private schools. Schools are then required to reach out to these previous employers to check for any credible complaints, substantiated investigations, or disciplinary actions related to serious misconduct.
This law helps ensure schools have access to important background information, creating a safer environment for students and staff.
Please email sb848@fcoe.org for all SB848 inquiries with the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.
