The Position
The Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools (“FCSS”) invites visionary, highly qualified educators with proven leadership skills to apply for the position of Deputy Superintendent of the Educational/Instructional Division to work in partnership with County Superintendent Dr. Michele Cantwell-Copher.
The Deputy Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership of the Educational/Instructional Division, including, but not limited to, Curriculum and Instruction, Accountability, Compliance and Grants, school district supports, Early Care & Education, Health Services.

The FCSS seeks a Deputy Superintendent who:
- Demonstrates knowledge of, experience with, and commitment to providing outstanding leadership to specialized instructional programs and services in school districts and with students and their families.
- Upholds the FCSS’ Strategic Plan and aims to maximize achievement for ALL students; operates with increasing efficiency & effectiveness; and supports the hiring and development of a high-quality, diverse workforce.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills with internal and external community partners.
- Commits to upholding superintendent policies and procedures.
- Recognizes and mentors’ leadership potential in others, celebrates accomplishments and fosters connections.
- Maintains a positive and collaborative partnership between the county office, school districts and local city and county agencies, as well as a strong representative of our office in region and state.
Personal Profile
The FCSS seeks a Deputy Superintendent who:
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills and is open to ideas expressed by the FCSS staff, parents, students, and community.
- Listens with intention and is inclusive to all.
- Maintains the highest standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional conduct; is sincere and authentic.
- Is highly visible in all county office programs, school districts and the community.
Education/Experience
- Experience as a school/district administrator in the State of California is required.
- Experience as a teacher, principal, district office or executive level administrator is desired.
- A master's degree is required.
- A doctorate in Education Leadership is preferred.

Salary and Contract
- Minimum Base Salary: $199,058.00 -- Maximum Base Salary: $209,135.00
- Master’s and Doctorate Stipends, $1,000.00 and $1,600.00, respectively.
Selection Process
Selected candidates will be invited to a panel interview comprised of employees and community partners in early May with interviews by the County Superintendent and her Executive Cabinet to follow. The Deputy Superintendent will be expected to begin July 1, 2023.
